Biochar (20%) and Compost (80%) blend
A specialized biochar and compost blend, crafted with the needs of residential landscapes in mind. This blend combines the enriching properties of biochar with the organic richness of compost, creating the perfect foundation for thriving vegetables and flowers.
Our blend is ideal for businesses managing diverse horticultural projects, promising healthier plant growth and increased yields, while supporting environmental sustainability.
Key features
- Improve Nutrient Holding Capacity: Biochar has a high cation exchange capacity (CEC), which helps to hold nutrients within the compost, preventing them from leaching away with water movement. This makes nutrients more available to plants for longer periods.
- Enhance Microbial Activity: Our Compost Mix provides a habitat for beneficial microorganisms. These microbes are essential for the breakdown of organic matter into nutrients that plants can use. The porous structure of our product provides protective sites for these microbes, which can enhance the composting process and improve the microbial life of the soil when applied.
- Improve Soil Structure: When combined with compost, biochar can help improve soil structure. It can reduce density, improve aeration and water infiltration, and help create a more favourable environment for root growth.
- Increase Water Retention: Biochar can significantly increase the water-holding capacity of the soil. When mixed with compost, which also has good water retention, the blend can help soils maintain moisture for longer periods, which is crucial for plant health, especially during dry spells.
Application
- Pots, Containers & Hanging Baskets: Select a container with holes for drainage. Place layer of grit in container and fill with compost. Plant up container and water well at time of planting.
- Beds & Borders: Dig a hole twice the size of root ball, partially fill with compost. Place the plant in hole and back fill with compost. Slightly compact the compost around plant and water well at time of planting.
- Seedlings / Pricking out
Once large enough, prick out seedlings. Hold seedling by the leaves to avoid damage and gently tease the roots from the compost. Plant seedlings well apart in compost to allow for growth - Watering: Biochar and coir naturally retain water, so avoid overwatering.
