Biochar is nature’s way to make soil rich and fertile. Used in farming for thousands of years, biochar is a carbon-rich material that improves soil health, even in poor or degraded soils, for long periods of time.

The porous nature of biochar supports beneficial microbial growth and soil structure, leading to better nutrient cycling rates, aeration and moisture retention.

Derived from sustainable local wood waste using a process called pyrolysis, our biochar can increase the size and health of your flowers, trees, plants, fruits and vegetables.

Our biochar is produced to a coarse particle size of between 5-20mm.

Enhanced Microbial Habitat – The porous structure offers an ideal habitat for beneficial microorganisms, promoting healthier soil ecosystems and enhancing plant growth.

Improved Soil Structure – Biochar can loosen compacted soils, improve aeration, and prevent soil erosion, supporting root development and soil resilience.

Pollution Remediation – Biochar can adsorb heavy metals and toxins, helping to remediate contaminated soils and improve environmental quality.

Application

Mixing Ratio: For best results, blend 10-20% of biochar by volume with your soil or compost. This mix provides the ideal concentration to efficiently improve soil structure, enhance nutrient retention and support healthy microbial growth, without overwhelming the soil composition.

Application Depth: Biochar works best when it’s applied to the plant root zone. This allows plants to gain direct access to the biochar’s moisture retaining and nutrient absorption properties.

For seeds and seedlings, apply biochar directly to soil at planting depth, but in a lower concentration of around 5-10%.

For established plants, apply biochar as a layer of top dressing around the plant base. Over time, watering and changes to the soil structure will draw the biochar to the root zone.

Root Zone Application: When applying biochar around roots, maintain a concentration of 10-20% by volume.

Watering Guidance: After applying biochar, give the soil a light watering to help integrate it with the surrounding soil and to ensure the biochar is activated. This initial watering supports the biochar’s ability to hold moisture, but take care to avoid overwatering, as excessive water can cause nutrient leaching.
