Wood Vinegar
Our Wood Vinegar is the perfect product for natural pest control, enhancing nutrient uptake and boosting plant growth.
Wood vinegar, also known as pyroligneous acid, is a dark liquid by-product from the production of biochar from pyrolysis. The main components of wood vinegar are acetic acid, acetone and methanol, but it contains more than 200 organic compounds in total. It is derived from the pyrolysis of hardwoods and other agricultural waste streams.
Our biochar is EBC-certified, ensuring our products are safe, effective, and environmentally responsible. You can find out more about what EBC-certification means here.
Key Features
- Natural pesticide - acts as a natural pesticide and fungicide, repelling certain insects and inhibiting the growth of pathogens without harming beneficial insects. Wood vinegar is less toxic than synthetic pesticides, making it an eco-friendly choice for pest control, especially in organic farming. It can be used to control a variety of pests, including aphids, mites, and slugs.
- Enhancing nutrient uptake - Wood vinegar can improve soil health by stimulating beneficial microbial activity, enhancing nutrient absorption, and balancing soil pH. It promotes root growth, which helps plants take up water and nutrients more efficiently.
- Boosting plant growth - Diluted wood vinegar is sometimes used as a foliar spray to stimulate plant growth and strengthen plant resilience to environmental stress. It can enhance germination rates and improve the vigor of young plants, making it popular in horticulture.
- Animal Health and Hygiene - In livestock management, wood vinegar is sometimes used as an additive in animal feed for its antimicrobial properties, which can improve digestion and reduce odors. It is also used as a disinfectant in animal housing to help control bacterial growth and odors.
- Composting - Wood vinegar promotes microbial activity, speeding up the breakdown of organic matter and enhancing nutrient retention. Its natural antimicrobial properties reduce odors, create a cleaner composting experience, and deter insects, ensuring a healthier and more efficient composting process that results in nutrient-rich compost for your plants.
- Deodorizing - Wood Vinegar is a natural deodorizer, ideal for eliminating odors in compost bins, pet areas, and other spaces.
- Disinfectant - Wood Vinegar is a natural disinfectant, perfect for cleaning and sanitizing surfaces.

Best time to apply
- Applying during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon, reduces the risk of leaf burn, enhances plant absorption, and minimizes evaporation—maximizing the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Do not mix with alkaline products as this will reduce the effectiveness
Storage
- Store undiluted product in a cool, dry place.
